Welcome to Shimpokai Judo Club, a proud Saint John, New Brunswick martial arts club with a tradition dating back to 1959.

For more than six decades, Shimpokai has helped children, youth, and adults discover the benefits of judo in a welcoming and supportive environment. Our goal is simple: develop strong judoka while helping build confident, respectful, and capable people both on and off the mat.

More Than Just Judo

Judo is much more than learning how to throw or grapple. Through regular training, students develop:

At Shimpokai, we believe there is a place for everyone on the tatami. Our programs provide opportunities for children, juniors, adults, recreational students, and competitive judoka.

Founded in 1959, Shimpokai Judo carries forward the traditions and values that have made judo a respected martial art around the world.

Our training combines traditional judo principles with modern coaching and a strong emphasis on safety, personal development, and continuous improvement.

Every student starts somewhere. We encourage our members to focus on becoming better than they were yesterday—not

simply on being better than someone else.
